American Foxtrot basic step.

 

 
 
 

The Fox Trot is a progressive, or traveling dance. If you can walk, you should be able to master this smooth dance.

Basic Step

Men's Steps

(The woman is in closed dance position in front of the man)
1 - 2. Step forward with the LF (S)
3 - 4. Step forward with the RF and touch the LF next to the RF (S)
5. Step side left with the LF (Q)
6. Bring the RF to the LF (Q)

Women's Steps

(The man is in closed dance position in front of the woman)
1 - 2. Step back with the RF (S)
3 - 4. Step back with the LF and touch the RF next to the LF (S)
5. Step side right with the RF (Q)
6. Bring the LF to the RF (Q)

Abbreviations:
RF
Right Foot
LF Left Foot
(S) Slow Step, 2 beats of music
(Q) Quick Step, 1 beat of music
Each number represents a beat of music.

Promenade Basic

Men's Steps

(The woman is in closed dance position in front of the man)
1 - 2.
Step out toward the left side of the room with the LF (S) (The woman is on the right side)
3 - 4. Follow through in the same direction with the RF (S)
5. Follow through with the LF and turn and face the front of the room (Q) (The woman is facing the man)
6. Bring the RF to the LF (Q)

Women's Steps

(The man is in closed dance position in front of the woman)
1 - 2.
Step out toward the right side of the room with the RF (S) (The man is on the left side)
3 - 4. Follow through in the same direction with the LF (S)
5. Follow through with the RF and turn and face the back of the room (Q) (The man is facing the woman)
6. Bring the LF to the RF (Q)
