Demi Plies Ballet Move:
Video Summary of Ballet Plies:
My name is Jennifer Carlynn Kronenberg. I’m a principal dancer with the Miami City Ballet and author of So You Want to Be A Ballet Dancer. I’m here at [unclear – 00:09] studios in Miami and I’m going to show you how to do pliés.
We’ll start with our feet parallel in sixth position, and with the weight back on the heels, we’ll turn the feet out, really squeezing and engaging the inner thigh muscles. Butt down, pelvis under, spine in neutral and arm down in first with an easy soft elbow.
Gently we’ll bend the knees down and squeeze them together, up. This is called a demi-plié. We’ll do it one more time and we’ll think about the knees going directly over the second toe and stretch. Last time – demi-plié and stretch.
We can do the same set of pliés in second position. So we’ll point the toe to the side, lower the heel down, and now we’re in second — Demi-plié and stretch. If you’d like, you can open the arm to the side so the arm is also in second position — Demi-plié and stretch. Keeping that belly in, Demi-plié and stretch. And that’s how you do your pliés.
