American Rhythm is the American equivalent of what is called International Latin in Europe. The dances include Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Swing and Bolero.
Compared to the International Latin, this style does not include the Samba, Paso Doble or the Jive.

This American style of dance falls under the umbrella of “Ballroom dancing”. This style has more of the Latin flavor compared to the American smooth style. There is usage of a technique called “Cuban Motion” in most of these dances. In short , Cuban motion means bending and straightening of the knees in order to achieve a hip action. This is a great style for social dancing as most of the figures are very easy to lead and follow. This style is also done competitively in America.
