Phillip has been
training dancers to excel since 1972. He has traveled extensively
to receive training from experts across the US, in Canada and the
United Kingdom. Phillip’s career has involved all aspects of
dancing, including (with partner Michael Schedler) running The Dance
Place, one of the largest dance studios in the USA. He has competed
successfully with both student and professional partners, has
performed on stage, has helped organize dance competitions, has
appeared on TV and has choreographed many routines for amateur and
professional couples.
Phillip Stephens is an Examiner for the
London-based Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), holding
Fellowship Degrees in International Ballroom and Latin styles of
dance and a Licentiate Degree in ISTD Viennese Waltz with that
organization. Phillip is a past president of the US ISTD, through
which he also holds Fellowship Degrees in the American Smooth and
Rhythm styles of dance and a Licentiate Degree in Theater Arts
dancing. As a member of the International Dance Teachers
Association (IDTA), also based in England, Phillip holds IDTA
Fellowship Degrees in International Latin and Ballroom dancing and
an IDTA Licentiate Degree in Viennese Waltz.
Registered as a Championship-level
Adjudicator with the National Dance Council of America (NDCA),
Phillip has judged at many events around the country, including the
North American Championships, the Imperial Star Championships, the
Ohio Star Ball and even the US Dance Sport Championships. Also
registered with the World Dance and Dance Sport Council (WD&DSC),
Phillip has judged events such as the 2003 IDO World Championships
held in Berne, Switzerland
