Here you will learn various Hip Hop Steps for Kids. Put all the steps together and you have s pretty cool dance. Keith Fitzpatrick breaks down everything you need to for each move. Enjoy!
Lesson #1: The Step Snap
Hi my name is Keith Fitzpatrick and this is hip-hop moves for kids and we’re going to go over the step snap. Real easy little move — all you’re going to do is take a step, and when you take your other step to bring it together — you want to snap down. So when you start, just take a big step and let your hand kind of come out with that step. You want to come out here and then just snap down — real cool.
You want to look like real cool kid. Step out and snap, then do the same thing the other way. You’ll come out – big step – snap. That’s all there is to it. Just going to take a step — here – snap – take another step here – snap. And make sure you really turn your body when you take that step. You want to be big here – snap. Take another big one — here – snap it down – real simple. Boom – Here – you’ve got to go “ugh” when you hit it. Here, “ugh,” here, “ugh.” And that’s your step snap.
Lesson #2: Criscross
Hi my name is Keith Fitzpatrick. This is hip-hop moves for kids and this is called the crisscross. So with this step you are really just going to be crisscrossing your legs. You will hop out – criss – cross – and you are going to rock when you come out of it. So you’ll go criss – cross, two, three, four – criss – cross, again, same movement.
And as you keep doing it, you just trade directions, criss – cross, two, three, four –criss – cross — six, seven, eight. Really simple – but it looks really good when you have a lot of people doing it together. So you start on five, six, seven, and – criss – cross – two, three, four – criss – cross – six, seven, eight – criss – cross – two, doo, doo – boom-boom, boom, boom, boom.
And the main thing to remember when you do that is to go up — and then down — and get really low, and stay with your knees bent, like we talked about in all that other stuff – knees bent. So you want to stay in pliés – what it’s called with your knees bent. When your knees are bent you are in plié, here. Again so, five, six, seven, go – criss – cross, two, three, four – criss – cross – six, seven, eight, and that’s your crisscross.
Lesson #3: Break It Down
Hi my name is Keith Fitzpatrick. This is hip-hop moves for kids and we’re going to go over, something I call, “the break it down.” So — really easy step and it’s another little toe step like we have been doing with some of the other ones, but with this one you are going to actually have a little bit more bounce with your upper body to it, okay?
So with this one you are going to start forward, you’ll come forward, you bring your foot up, you bring it down, then you’ll bring this one up and you’ll bring it down. All right, so you’ll come boom – here, boom – here, boom – here, boom – here, okay. So we’ll do that again. You are here – boom – here, boom – ah, boom – here, boom – up. So as opposed to the other ones where you were doing this, with this one you are using your upper body — you are bouncing that way. You want to bounce boom – up, boom – here, boom – here, boom – here.
So, with that last one when you come up, you can turn your body this way and start over again, or you can turn your body this way — and change your direction. Okay? So you can just go here – up, down – up, here – up, down – up — Change boom, boom, here –boom, here – down, up and then you can just come back that way and change the direction. But every time you do it, you want to look like you’re just really breaking it down — boom – here, boom – ah, boom – here, boom – ah, all right? And that’s your break it down.
Lesson #4: The Toe Drag
More Hip Hop Lessons
Hi my name is Keith Fitzpatrick. This is hip-hop moves for kids, and we’re going to do something called the toe drag. Now with this slide it’s going to be a little different because on the other slides we always kind of do the heel or the side of the foot. But with the toe drag we’re just going to do a different slide. It’s going to be more like us turning our upper body and you’re going to drag your toe as you come here you’ll be here.
All right, so you’re dragging your toe as you slide and you are twisting your upper body this way — so you’ll twist here. And you want to let your toe drag and stop and then your upper body will kind of finish its motion and then you can turn the other way – here – and bring it down. But you want to be really smooth and you want to take that first step and let that first step be really big because you have plenty of room to drag your toe and move your upper body.
So you will be here, you’ll be-, slide and drop it down. It’s a little melt there at the end of that one. Okay? So you’ll be real big, drop it down, switch and drop it down, okay? Go — really big first move – Boom, pah — switch and drop. Okay? So one more time, you are taking a big step in the very beginning with this foot — here and drop — and you’ll want your fists to close up and your body to come all the way down – stop. Then you switch. Boom. All right? So, to tempo, when you do it, you’ll be a big start – boom, kah – Whew, all right? And that’s your toe drag.
