Week 3 of Dancing With The Stars was a bit of a downer for me as a Professional Dancer.
Not because of the quality of dancing, but because of the need for the judges to be in the spotlight. I do like to hear the comments of the judges, but seeing them argue with the people in the audience is starting to get old. Secondly there seems to be a different set of rules forming. We now seem to want the Ballroom Dances( Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz to be danced in the International Style. Up till last night all the Ballroom dances were danced as American Style. This simply means that I have the freedom to dance in an apart dance position. Now on to the Dancing.
Overall I think that the best dance of the night was the Jive danced by Monique Coleman and ??. It was bright, full of energy and slick. She has a great posture on the floor and is learning to loosen up a bit. But we all have to remember that this is not a true dance competition. The big question here is who will be eliminated this week.
I think it will be one of the Girls, either Willa Ford or Sara Evans. Neither wowed me with their dancing on the night and did get good scores from the judges. I did think that Sara did her best dancing of the show and looked like she was having a good time. but I do not think that she will have the fan base to keep he in it for the long haul. Willa Ford has a great look on the floor, she knows how to perform. Will she have enough votes to keep her in it? I don't think that Jerry Springer will be dancing much longer, but I think he will get thru his week. His partner really knows how to teach, and perform in a way that brings out the best in Jerry. Emmitt Smith could also be on the hot seat this week, but I think he will have enough votes to staI think Harry is another that will only last another week or 2. He could even find himself in the bottom 2 this week.
This year the freestyle dance is what is going to be the difference maker. This is why the final 4 will come down to Monique Coleman, Vivica A Fox, Mario Lopez and Joey Lawrence. If you remember lat season DREW LACHEY won this competition with a SUPER freestyle dance that no one could touch. This season the Freestyle dances should be very exciting.
I guess we will have to wait and see.
