Kym Johnson made her Australian television debut on
the first smash hit series of "Dancing with the Stars"
partnering Justin Melvey, and most recently Michael
Caton. It was, however, her triumphant achievement of
winning series 2 with Tom Williams that propelled her
fame nationwide.
Following their success, Kym starred on the "Champion of
Champions" series, "Celebrity Survivor" on behalf of the
Merry Makers Charity, and made a cameo performance on
the fourth "Dancing with the Stars" Grand Final during
Alex Lloyds live rendition of "Amazing".
Kym is an Australian Ballroom Champion and World
Representative of Ballroom Dance, but originally trained
in ballet, tap, jazz, and and singing, as well as
acrobatics, before specializing in ballroom. Kym
actually began ballroom at the relatively late age of 15
when she was dragged to lessons by her brother who
decided it would be a good way for him to meet girls.
She soon got the bug and it wasn't long before she was
dancing competitively.
Kym studied for over 2 years in the UK before being cast
out of London in the highly acclaimed 6 month European
and 6 month United States tour of "Burn the Floor". Kym
performed at Paris Casino in Las Vegas, Royal Albert
Hall in London, Radio City Music Hall in New York, Elton
John's 50th Birthday and Cannes Film festival to name a
few. Kym returned to Australia for Dame Edna/Barry
Humphries national "Back to my Roots" production before
rejoining "Burn the Floor" to continue with the world
tour.
Kym was thrilled to join the American cast of "Dancing
with the Stars" partnering Jerry Springer, a man she
says is "one of the nicest" she's ever met. Throughout
the series Jerry and Kym became the clear audience
favourite with host, Tom Bergeron, referring to the
dancing duo as "the heart and soul of the show".
During Kym and Jerry's seven weeks of competition the
couple formed a lifelong friendship and on their last
episode Jerry described Kym as "America's Sweetheart
with an Australian accent".
Keeping Australia updated of her American adventures,
Kym wrote her popular weekly 'behind the scenes' diary
for OK! Magazine.
Kym is currently starring on the 38 American City
"Dancing with the Stars Tour"; partnering series 1 cast
member and ex-New Kid on the Block, Joey McIntyre.
Kym is excited to be returning for her second American
Series partnering Joey Fatone, from one of the most
popular bands of all time *NSYNC.
In 2008 Kym will dance with Penn Jillette.
